In the north of the Netherlands a redevelopment project of 525 hectare has made space for nature, agriculture and recreational activities. This natural area is part of a protected nature reserve and will offer space for several wild bird species who feel at home in a swamp area.
Foreco has delivered timber for a bridge across the lake in this reserve. The timber is a combination of softwood and hardwood that is connected through a finger joint; TwinWood. The softwood, pine, will have a high durability as long as it stays under the water level. At the water level and above is the more sustainable hardwood. Instead of using hardwood for the whole structure, now a part can be replaced by softwood, which is economically interesting and saves tropical forests.
